spike-cuffs.jpg
These came across my path prior to leaving for the SXSW music portion of the festival. Perfect! Sure, I got called "ma'am" no less than 3 times in a 24 hour period once arriving in Austin - but that didn't detract from my badass bracelets. I don't need a cane with my goddamn margarita, though I appreciate the politeness factor. On to the important stuff. The spikes are actually blunt and made of coated plastic. That means comfort for you and your fellow show-goers. Three tiers are held together by elastic, providing the proverbial "one size fits all" moniker. I haven't had these very long, but the color coating has yet to wear off. A bonus in the "cheap jewelry" department. I'm going crazy for this current stud and spike trend - I'm snapping up everything I can before we cycle through a shittier part of the 80's. That way the next time some young buck calls me "ma'am," at least my dated ass will have earned it.

The Beard Buster!

shaving-cream.jpgDon't limit yourself to the jewelry section when at the 99 Cent Store - bargains abound in every aisle! For example - shaving cream. I use this on my legs - I find the thick foam both delightful and effective. I don't need it to be pink to work - ironic, given the decor of this page. Seriously, not only is the shaving cream packaging way fussier for gals - it's also usually more expensive and contains less ounces. It's the same damn thing, I swear. Added bonus - I personally get the giggles when I see the phrase "beard buster." That covers everything from Katie Holmes to Britney Spears' graceful exit from a vehicle, in my mind. Besides, if a man's face can go down there, why can't his shaving cream?

Not A Hot Topic

red-skull-earrings.jpgBoy, do I ever feel sassy when I wear my red pleather hoops, decorated with white skulls. The best part? I didn't have to stroll into the dreaded mall, or frequent a Hot Topic, to make them mine. Not to say that I haven't been in a Hot Topic - I totally have. It's just that I'm not in need of any Twilight paraphernalia, ever. I initially purchased these for a friend, but quickly decided they were too cool leave my collection.   It turns out she left my collection, of friends that is. In retrospect, I still prefer the earrings.

Sparkly Donuts

gold-donut-earrings.jpgShould you find yourself wishing to recreate Studio 54 while having a "Warhol moment" - the 99 Cent Store has just the thing for you! Sequins? Check. The lovely bronze color that goes with just about anything (including the back-in-vogue jumpsuit)? Check. The freedom to lose these beauties to Lindsay Lohan when she inevitably tries to trap you in a bathroom stall? Double check! Consider them currency. Well worth a buck, plus tax.

Smilin' & Stylin'

smilin-&-stylin.jpgI can trace my love of thrift store shopping, 99 cent jewelry and cheap shades to this moment. I never realized all of these things were intrinsically "me" until I met my current boyfriend (and soon to be husband) and he happily noted my thrifty style. He was thrilled to learn that I was more than happy to shop for previously worn rock tee-shirts and wear cheap jewelry. That a perfect date included PBR and a taco truck was a bonus. A match made in heaven? If heaven includes plastic accessories, then I think we've got it made. He dubbed me "The 99 Cent Girlfriend" in appreciation of my insanely large collection of inexpensive baubles and the like. This page is an ode to that nickname. Enjoy!
