The Beer Mongers is a relatively new offering in Portland - and they couldn't have picked a better city in which to begin their business. The owners, both McMenamin brewers, are seriously knowledgeable about the art of beer. It definitely shows - their selection is out of this world! Rare options from all over the globe are chilling next to popular local microbrews. The beloved lowbrow standards are also available. The Beer Mongers have a unique setup - it's a store, but it's also a bar. You can pop in and grab a variety of beers to go - or you can stay on the premises and enjoy your amazing finds right on the spot. They also offer a few beers on tap. The owners recently added an actual bar setup to their space - in fact a "Bar Baptism Party" is happening this coming Saturday, May 8th. You'll be able to enjoy free snacks and tastings all day - and you can help christen the bar at 5 pm. You don't have to ask me twice! The only drawback (if you can call it that) is the decor - it's in serious need of a woman's touch, in my opinion. The guys have done a great job of creating a vibe - but it's seriously the most "dude-like" bar I have ever been in. That said, it certainly didn't detour us from hanging out for several hours. The lack of atmosphere hit us when we first walked in - by the end of the evening we were singing its praises. A few top-notch beers and personal attention from one of the owners certainly didn't hurt. He definitely had a strong interest in our gorgeous friend - but that doesn't mean he wouldn't have been equally as attentive if it had only been me and my boyfriend. My honey can talk beer! Portland is both a mellow and competitive town - incredible bars and restaurants are available on every corner of the city. I think The Beer Mongers has what it takes to be the go-to place for craft beers. I know I'll definitely be going back.
